Oxfordshire County Council

Oxfordshire County Council has 74 elected councillors representing all parts of the county. The council is Conservative-controlled and its decision-making body is called the cabinet. The Council Constitution sets out the rules and procedures under which the council operates

District Councils

Services provided by the five Oxfordshire district councils include environmental health, housing, leisure, recreation, planning applications and waste collection.

Parish and Town Councils

Parish and town councillors represent smaller geographical areas such as Banbury, Chinnor, Woodstock or Buckland. All parts of the county except certain areas of Oxford are parished and have a town or parish council supported by a parish clerk.

Partnership Working

Services in Oxfordshire are provided by a wide range of organisations. Oxfordshire County Council works closely in partnership with these organisations to deliver better services and value for money for local people.

Community Planning

A community plan sets out a vision for how a community wants to develop, and identifies the actions needed to achieve it.

Local MPs

There are six Members of Parliament (MPs) for Oxfordshire and each MP represents a constituency area.

Local MEPs

There are 10 Members of European Parliament (MEPs) for the South East Region and all 10 represent the people living in Oxfordshire.

The High Sheriff of Oxfordshire

The office of High Sheriff of Oxfordshire dates back to the year 995 and is the oldest continuous secular office under the Crown.
